Knockout
The first round of the Leslie Dodds Cup has a strict – but generous – deadline of the 5th November, eight weeks from the Friday after the AGM.
Winners in round one play in the Leslie Dodds Cup, losers in the Gainsborough Plate. Both events are drawn at the completion of the initial round.
League
With 30 teams, down one from last year, we return to a league of five divisions. This has been easier to achieve than increasing the quota (as last year) and all those who expected promotion have been promoted but some who were resigned to relegation have been spared. Coolhurst have, effectively divided, the name resides with the captain but with the fewer ex-members the 'new' team Nuthurst inherits the position, relegated to Div. 4.
This is a schematic view of the changes.
Division | New 1 | New 2 | New 3 | New 4 | New 5 | Out |

Old 1 | 1234 | 56 | ||||
Old 2 | 12 | 34 | 5 | |||
Old 3 | 12 | 34 | 5 | |||
Old 4 | 12 | 3 | 5 | 4 | ||
Old 5 | 1 | 23 | 45 | |||
Old 6 | 12 | 35 | 4 | |||
New | 1 |
The numbers represent the finishing position in last year's division (reading horizontally) and locate that team in the new vertical divisions.
Online Summer Handicap
This year 10 teams contest the 'OSH' held over May, June and July.
OSH – Brief Conditions of Contest
Reminder, this is a friendly event, with shorter matches, no Masterpoints, against teams from different divisions, people whom you might well have not played before. The event is run by Mark Hutton, there is no fee to enter but first prize is free entry to the 2022-23 League!
- Each team will play four matches, approximately one every three weeks. Opponents are drawn across all divisions to balance each pool.
- All matches will be on BBO with no home/away distinction. Each match is of 16 boards (2 x 8, with exchange of opponents). Current LBH rules for matches on BBO apply.
- There will be a handicap of 6 IMPs per division difference between the teams (2021-22 League). Results will be submitted via the website in the normal way (including handicap as directed).
- The two teams with the highest VP scores (calculated after relevant handicap) qualify from each pool, with each winner playing the second-placed team from the other pool. A final will then be played between the two winning semi-finalists.
