2007-2008

23-Sep-2008

AGM! Good coverage from teams, I hope that bodes well for the new season, two items of news emerged:

Formtex won the Leslie Dodds Cup; they beat CMS Cameron McKenna 38-35 in the final. Congratulations to 'Stan' and his team; Z S Siemaszkiewicz, E Wojtowicz, J Zusin and J Deszberg.

Secondly, another league result is rumoured to exist, which together with one other discovered earlier brings the level of last year's completion to all-but-one. Not bad at all.

4-Sep-2008

In the final of the Gainsborough Plate, RAC 'B' beat LSE 'A'. Congratulations to Marina Chaning Pearce and her team, Arun Suri, Tony Scouller and Pamela Reiss.

The Leslie Dodds Cup has two finalists: Formtex play CMS Cameron McKenna.

Several results have drifted in and I've (belatedly) updated the divisions. I must say in terms of matches played, this year has been a bit of a cracker. 1 East, 2 West, 2 East were all complete and the others were missing just a solitary match - only three unplayed in the whole league.

2008 AGM and Captains' Meeting for 2008-2009 Season

The 33rd AGM of the LBHCBA will take place at 18.15 sharp on Tuesday 23rd September 2008 in the Pimlico room at the Civil Service Recreation Centre, Chadwick Street, SW1. The season opener, The Surdoc Trophy, which will again be held at IBM, will be on 23rd October.

This year will be collating entries. Captains have already been sent details but you can download an entry form and an agenda as Microsoft Word documents.

8-Jul-2008

The inaugural Summer Individual was held on the 3-July. Congratulations to Carmel Wood who emerged the winner. You can see the full results.

21-May-2008

Results continue to come in and many divisions are tantalisingly close to completion; my tidy nature has been provoked into action and I'm looking for those one or two results necessary for the complete set.

The Plate has one finalist, LSE 'A' and two semi-finalists RAC 'B' and BT 'C' who play on 19-June. Unfortunately the Cup is in less good shape and emails are winging their way through the virtual ether to those involved…

Update: that elicited the information that the cup quarter-final, Wanderers v HSE, is schduled for 28-May

21-Apr-2008

There have been quite a few small updates and, dare I say it, 'completion' is looking pretty good this year. I'm going to be chasing later this week so watch out (yes, I know I always say that but this time I'm really going to do it).

4-Apr-2008

Congratulations to Chris Wright and Philip Watson who won the 2008 Selfridges Pairs. Ashwin Patel & Carmel Wood were second with Graham Cunningham & Teymur Tamseen were third. Full results are available from the link to the left.

Small number of updates and corrections.

28-Mar-2008

Reminder! The Selfridges Pairs is next week. Carol Regulski is organising this, entries by 31-March please (for security at venue).

As results are important this time of year, I'm keeping a close eye on the mailbox and the website is being updated almost daily.

21-Mar-2008

A small number of results and clarifications flushed out by the update below.

19-Mar-2008 Evening

I spoil you - all results now updated.

Just to be clear, no results were affected by the problem described below, just the make up of the teams on the scorecard. So if you can't see a result you've sent - and remember to refresh the page - then you need to send again.

19-Mar-2008

Bugs out! Sign

I've been holding back from doing an update pending my investigation into a bug that some of you have reported. Evidence that something was awry was twofold: there were some 'undefined' entries in the scorecards that arise from clicking on the match result in the league listings and secondly, some people who had played several times didn't appear there at all.

I'm glad to say I have found the problem. In addition, I also developed a technique of sorting the players that participate most to the top of the list so, when you use the automatic score submission, there will not be inactive players clogging the list.

I hope that change doesn't cause any problems (note that captains may not now be the top-most entry) and, all things being well, I'll do an update today or tomorrow.

4-Mar-2008

An update of results - and this time I've remembered to include those quaint postcards that arrive occasionally (apologies for the omission but it's a sign of changing times that I've had at most half a dozen so far this year).

The Selfridges Pairs is held this month - details here and from the link to your left. Carol Regulski is organsing this, any questions not covered please get in touch with her, email from the 'committee' page.

20-Feb-2008

A somewhat belated update - lots of action in the second half of January and I stepped away for a short while. All results are now up to date, league and knock-outs. Those matches were mainly in the league though - it will soon be chasing time for the knock-outs…

14-Jan-2008

Happy new year to you all and good to see some results in already.

The cup and plate draws are now completely unambiguous (no 'either-or's) but also resolved is the non participation of Beachcroft in division three. This is much the sadder for being the second team to have dropped out of that division and leave it with just four teams - sorry guys.

18-Dec-2007

Last update this year (surely..): a few league results and I've brought the 2007 Leslie Dodds Cup and 2007 Gainsborough Plate pages up to date to reflect their completion and put 2006-7 to bed in the archives.

12-Dec-2007

2006-7 Plate result!: congratulations to BT'B' - Roland Gronau, Andrew Welsh, Tim Pelling and Bill Linton - who defeated BT'C' - Andrew Clery, Adrian Rogers, Liz Clery and Ryan Stephenson - by 69-30 IMPs to retain the trophy they won last year.

Round two in the 2007-8 Knock-outs has been drawn: details from links to your left.

Selfridges Pairs: as last year, this is a single session event with refreshments (same as proved popular at the Surdoc) and will be held on Thursday 3rd April, 18:15 at IBM South Bank. Entry will be five pounds per player, contact if you want to play. There will be other reminders but entries close on 31-March so we can inform IBM security.

7-Dec-2007

Cup first round completed shock! Not just a rumour, it really happened. And, more surprising still, the 2006-7 Plate accelerates towards a conclusion; the 'old' BT 'B' (don't ask..) beat IBM 'B' to secure a place in the final against another BT side, 'C'. That event is scheduled for 11-December nicely avoiding the year-end cut-off.

4-Dec-2007

Who would have thought it? The first round of the cup - completion is in sight! There is one match tonight and the draw will be out for the next round in short order. There's a committee meeting on 11-Dec so it will be drawn then at the latest.

Also a league update: good to see more of you using the web submission form, it certainly makes life easier for me. My next project is to tidy the format up a bit and put a few more features on it. My priority list is:

If there is anything else you would like to see, drop me a line.

21-Nov-2007

The 2006-7 Leslie Dodds cup has been won by Civil Service. Congratulations to David Flaxen, Graham Horscroft, Richard Creamer and Mike Bull who overcame the National Audit Office, represented by Tom Wallace, William Hotopf, Mike Gilbert and Mark Simpson, 67-37 in the final.

Only one more result this week for the 2007-8 knock-out though: note that more strict measures are in force this year so please keep me informed when you find a date. If you want an extension into December, you need to tell .

And some disappointing news: Athenaeum 'B' have had to withdraw from 3 Central.

13-Nov-2007

Update of about a dozen results, cup and league. Hold the front page! There's now a date - this week - for the final of the 2006-7 Leslie Dodds - between Civil Service and the National Audit Office. Not such good news on last year's plate though and my patience is getting low. We must be days away from calling that a no-result.

24-Oct-2007

Beachcroft LLP have been substituted by the University of London in the first round knock-out and negotiation are continuing to see if Beachcroft can raise a team for the League - watch this space. There has been a sprinkling of results, now updated.

I received the following from Simon Cochemé at the Young Chelsea:

The Young Chelsea Bridge Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2008 and is organising some special events.

One of these is for students and alumni of London Universities and Colleges, and will take place on 20 January 2008. If you would like to take part, please email . Partners and team-mates found.

11-Oct-2007

Good news: I am pleased to say I've managed to entice the University of London to play in Division 2 East. Teams in that division have been informed and the layouts and contact details have been updated. And we have our first league result in.

Not so good news: this year's cup is still subject to change as I struggle to track down Beachcroft LLP. Their lack of communication doesn't bode well. I'll keep those involved informed separately.

Bad news: last year's cup.. I've made summary decisions to forfeit some matches based on non-communication of the parties. I hope that will get it finished; details at 2007 Leslie Dodds Cup and 2007 Gainsborough Plate.

1-Oct-2007

The website is now updated to reflect the new season.

In fact there are a few loose ends (including a few teams who've not yet paid) and the exact structure of League and Knock-Outs may change slightly but anyone affected about those will hear by email. I'm also emailing all captains today so if you haven't heard from me, get in touch as your email may be wrong. The new season link from the left contains updated documents and links to all league divsions etc.
