Venues for matches
Many teams in our League do not have a home venue, and the Young Chelsea is a popular choice. But with the move from Earl's Court and uncertainty over the YC's future, we thought that we should help teams to find possible alternative venues. So we have done some research, and the results are in the link below.
If anybody has information or ideas on venues, please contact and we will update the posting. And we will be interested to hear how new venues turn out, so do give us your feedback. Details will change, so check the up-to-date link before contacting a venue to fix a match.
We do not want perceived venue problems to discourage teams from continuing to play in the League and we are remain open to new teams. If you have any ideas on the latter, do make contact yourself or put them in touch with (Treasurer, on 01737 210252). Venues will also be discussed at the Captains' Meeting and AGM in September.

Captains have been sent details of how to do this. The procedure is unchanged from last year, each team having a code which allows access to a dedicated page. That page is used to edit team details. Once you have the code, enter it on here (or use the link, 'Next Season Entries', top-left).

Gainsborough Plate 2012-13
Congratulations to the Civil Service team, Mike Fletcher, Richard Creamer, Tom Wallace and Mike Bull, who edged out The Wanderers in a tight final, 47-42.

Leslie Dodds 2012-13
In the final of the Leslie Dodds BTONS 'A' beat CMS Cameron McKenna 71-59. Congratulations to the BTONS team, Andrew Clery, Liz Clery, Ryan Stephenson and Ken Barnett. Commiserations to Cameron McKenna, now losing finalists two years in succession.

BTONS Bridge Club… is moving
BTONS has a new venue from Wednesday 19th June:
Williamson's Tavern,
1 Groveland Court,
London,
EC4M 9EH
(On Wednesday 12th June the club meets at Ye Olde Watling, 29 Watling Street for the last time.)
The club continues to play on Wednesdays at 6:30pm and offers pre-dealt boards, hand records and EBU Master Points. There is a host system so if you are on your own, you're guaranteed a game.

The 2012-13 Selfridges Trophy for Pairs
A single-session matchpointed pairs for players from LBH league or cup teams (not necessarily the same one).

There will be pre-duplicated boards with a copy of the hand records at the end of the event, which is scheduled to be scored using BridgeMates.
Entries, by email, to by FRIDAY, 7th June please, so that the necessary arrangements for catering and accommodation can be made, as there maximum of only 12 tables. All entries will be acknowledged by email.

The 2012-13 Selfridges Trophy for Pairs
This, the LBHCBA single-session matchpointed pairs for players from LBH league or cup teams (not necessarily the same one) will be held on Tuesday 11th June.
Keep the date; entries will be taken from 1st May.

'Last call' for 2011-12 Master Points. Awards went only to those people whose EBU Numbers were known. That can be repaired but I will have to send shortly to the EBU with any additions. Please get in touch as soon as possible if your team's statement contained any obvious omissions.

2011-12 Master Point Awards
These have been submitted to the EBU and should fall in the 2012 MP Year (if only by the skin of their teeth). Captains of teams in last season's League have been sent a statement of their team's awards. Note that only those players who have provided an EBU Number have been credited.
End of Calendar Year
As in the past two years teams who did not complete three fixtures by 31-Dec-2012 in the League season have a dangling penalty of 2 VP for each match they were short. This will not be levied if they complete their 2012-13 programme.

The draw for both knock-outs has now been now been made – links on the left. Both use the new KO Scorer (below). The Round 1 draw is still accessible.

Web Scoring
New improved scorer! And, for the first time ever, on-line submission of knock-out results.
You won't see a link to the 'KO Scorer; on the left as you do for the League. The scorer for knockouts is customised to a given match and to invoke it, you use a link from the page with the draw. As Round 1 is current that page has been modified. To avoid spoiling the look of it, the links only appear when you hover over the results area.
You'll soon get the hang of it – below is a screenshot of how it looks. I haven't quite decided how the later rounds, in the 'bracket' format, will work.
The League Scorer has been enhanced so if a match is already entered, the relevant data (scores, line-ups etc.) appear in the page. So if you want to make a change it should be relatively easy.
One caveat; if you bookmarked the old League Scorer that will no longer work as the address has changed slightly – use the 'Submit Results' link on the left. If you have any problems with the new technology or any suggestions, please get in touch.

2011-12 Gainsborough Plate Final
ICL beat Stock Exchange 'B' in the final, 73-24.
Congratulations to ICL, the team in the final were: Mark Davies, Robert Buxton, John Coleman and Steve Hames.
It may be somewhat late to finish last year's events but it's an improvement of several months over 2011.

Alternative Venues
The number of clubs not being able to host matches has steadily grown over the years. The sad demise of recognised sports and social activities, security concerns and the acceptance of teams with a loose brief, of retirees and alumni for example, has resulted in a departure from the situation of the 50s and 60s when the Association was first formed.
Consequently the committee has formalised arrangements with the Young Chelsea Bridge Club for holding matches at their club. The booking details are on this page (also reachable from the 'Alternative Venues' link on the left).
This is not a exclusive arrangement; if there are any other clubs (or similar) with a suitably central location who are willing host matches then we would be happy to endorse them too.

SURDOC Trophy
Congratulations to Victoria Ansary, Dorette Birshan, Frank Hollendoner and Robin Kilborn who were on fine early-season form with a comfortable win, leaving the holders a distant second.

Leslie Dodds Final
Stock Exchange 'A' beat CMS Cameron McKenna in the final, 50-47.
In the final Stock Exchange were: Peter Cogliatti (captain), Stuart Leigh, Jimmy Strauss and David Hull with John Clarke, Chris Brewin and Brian Kelly appearing earlier in their campaign. Peter Cogliatti claims this win brings to an end a losing-streak of four unsuccessful finals.
